What do you do if you just can't readjust to your culture after studying abroad?
Reverse culture shock is something that most people experience to some degree when they return from studying abroad… it’s the readjustment period, and a lot of people have a hard time readjusting to their home culture.
I was in Spain for a month, where I learned how to teach English. I’ve been back in North Carolina for two weeks, but I just can’t readjust to this culture. I’m not sure if it’s reverse culture shock, because I had similar feelings about North Carolina before I ever went abroad.
Of course I’m grateful that I go to go, but in spite of that, I’ve been profoundly depressed. I hate being here in North Carolina and I wish and wish I could go back overseas.
I keep feeling frustrated and annoyed with the culture here. The Spanish way of doing things makes sense, and I keep thinking, "Why can’t people in North Carolina do what makes sense?" For example, my car broke down last week, and I’m stranded in the house. Where I live, everything is set up so that nothing is accessible without a car. If you don’t have one, you’re just trapped. I keep thinking, this is so stupid, to set up a city so that you’re stranded if you don’t have a car. It was so nice in Spain… if I wanted to go somewhere, ANYWHERE, I just went out my door and walked there. Or, I took the metro. I keep having thoughts like, "Why can’t we do things the right way here in USA?"
I feel isolated, and detached… like nobody cares about my problems. In Spain, you never suffer from lack of a car, but here, you can’t function without one. That’s just one example what annoys me about this culture. I have really critical thoughts like, "People in North Carolina are just self-centered and don’t care about others’ problems."
I keep wondering why I should even bother readjusting. When I was in Spain, my eyes were opened up to a lot of things. For example, how fucked up North Carolina culture is. People here are really narrow-minded and racist, and nosy. For example, in North Carolina, people freak out whenever they see an interracial couple. In Europe, you see interracial couples everywhere and no one bats an eye. Ditto for gays… it always bothered me that gays get discriminated against in North carolina. In Spain it was so refreshing to see that people realize that gays are human like the rest of us. It’s not about cultural differences. Discrimination isn’t cool, in any country.
Everyone in my family expected me to be excited about coming home to North Carolina, but I’ve hated North Carolina since my family moved here years ago. What frustrates me is that everyone in my family rushed me home, they emailed me every day, nagging me to hurry and come home, but now that I’m back, all they do is neglect me.
My mom treats me like I’m a ghost that she can’t even see, and my father treats me like garbage to be thrown out on the curb. They acted like they were excited for me to come back but now all they do is ignore me. My parents are divorced, and my dad won’t even let me visit him at his home. He treats me like I’m vermin or something.
They call America the land of opportunity… but this is what it has to offer me… a family that doesn’t care about me, or want me. A crappy job that pays nickels and pennies… and a crummy town where you’re stranded if you don’t have a car. I wish I’d never come home again. I don’t regret going to Spain, but readjusting to North Carolina culture seems like a waste. I don’t want to go back to how I used to be, after this special opportunity. I don’t belong here.
The thing that’s just torturing me is that I dreamed of going to Spain ever since I was a toddler, and there were so many things that I’d dreamed of doing over there. During my time in Spain, though, I didn’t get to do them because I didn’t have the time or money. It took me 30 years to get to Spain. Now, I’m back in USA and I’ve lost my chance forever. It tortures me to know that I was so close, and now I’ll never get my chance again. I don’t know how I’ll ever afford to make it back.
The only reason I returned to the United States was because I didn’t have the $$$ to do the things I wanted to do in Spain and it was depressing being over there and not having the $$$ to enjoy it properly. That, and I’m stupid. My VISA would have been good for another three months, sometimes I just get sick of following immigration laws by the book anyway.I personally think that their immigration laws are stupid, but that’s another story.
I would have had a hard time readjusting regardless but the crappy reception I got from my family and "friends" just kills me. My parents could take me out to dinner or to a movie or something, but they just treat me like I don’t even exist. My "friends" don’t even ask about my trip. They just bombard me with things they want me to do for them.
Everyone expects me to be excited about being back but I wish with all my heart I’d stayed in Spain.
Do what millions of others have done, including me. Immigrate somewhere else
Go to Spain for a year or 2
or start with California.

Starwars…was enevating, new…and it’s a story line. Can’t have 1 w/out the others, where as, that maybe what gives Indy it’s future…you can start anywhere and each story…has tidbits from the past movies, but each can be watched seperatly. Both have the potential for futures, but Indy has the best chance, esp introducing a possible "future replacement of Indy" w/ the last movie.
Still, Star wars: my 4 year old knows Starwars and not indy. he watched it….but forgot about it a few weeks later. Still talks about star wars clone wars…lol.

I am sorry, but I cannot find this info. I checked their website in hopes that it would be there somewhere. Have you considered sending them an email and asking about it? They would probably be happy to help. They offer a lot of educational things, so I bet they would help you.
I was able to discover that it was designed by the architect I. M. Pei, if that helps at all.

HELPPP VERY URGENT! PLAN B AND PREGNANCY?
I made him were a condom made him pull out but scared my self silly for no reason and stupidly took the Plan B morning after pill, I know I know CRAZY if nothing went wrong but just incase. I took it on Friday the 13th (yikes) and then today the 18th experienced random 2 hour bleeding…my roomate said that happened to her and she still has sex like a rabbit and is fine but everyone is different and im soo scared should i still be worried about being prego or just come to terms with the fact that i took a high dose of hormones and my body is just out of wack now. My period isnt due till the 30th so i have a while but i have scared my self to the point of false pregnancy symptons.
This is not my first time having sex this is my second however after my first time i bleed a week later too but it was a different kinda of bleeding that lasted like almost a week not 2 hrs. I know that this can be a side effect of plan B. I over re act about EVERYTHING and just wanted to get ideas from everyone else
was it your first time? cause u usually bleed then. and were you lubricated(wet) enough? that could cause bleeding if you weren’t. otherwise i have no idea. But don’t worry about it, just relax about it, hope this helps
