Need inspirational movie suggestions!!!?
Okay, I’m a screenwriter and am currently on the second draft of my drama screenplay. It is a mix of melodrama and neo-noir, but it is also a love story. I am NOT looking for the made-for-TV kind of films (something you would see on LMN, Hallmark, or Lifetime). I want movies that have done very well at the box office or made a long-lasting impact on audiences.

To give you a general idea of what kind of themes I want, here’s some brief details about my script:
1) It is a love story…amateur and professional readers alike have said it’s beautiful
2) It involves suicide, depression, self-scarification, and light drug use
3) It is inspired by several actual events
4) It takes place in Texas, but not in a "small country town" necessarily
5) It is violent at times but very heart-warming overall

I am trying to watch as many movies in the drama genre and read as many scripts as I can, but I just need some great inspirational movie suggestions that might help me figure out mine. I am looking forward to finishing my script very soon.

Thanks!

P.S. If anybody knows any agents or managers interested in such a script, please say so. I already have several contacts, but I love to network!

Well, I’m not sure if I can help majorly but I will give you a list that have made such an impact on me, even a couple have made me cry and I always recommend them to anyone.

Brotherhood (Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo)
Gladiator
Black Hawk Down
Forest Gump
Titanic (Guilty Pleasure of mine)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Sky Blue (Also known as Wonderful Days)

Type them up on http://www.imdb.com/
Brotherhood is one I highly recommend.
Hope they help

You might consider the movies "Five Easy Pieces" starring Jack Nicholson and Karen Black and "Terms of Endearment" with Debra Winger, Jeff Daniels, Jack Nicholson and Shirley MacLaine. You might consider the movie "Ironweed" with Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson as well as the movie "Sophie’s Choice" starring Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline and Peter MacNichol. Finally, you might consider "Good Will Hunting" with Matt Damon, Robin Williams and Ben Affleck and the movie "Giant" starring James dean, Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor.

You might also rummage around a few good used book stores. I found two old novels this summer that could easily be adapted into screenplays. One was a daring wartime rescue caper with a side of romance, and the other a full bore thriller full of espionage and evil containing pent up romantic interludes. great writing in both instances.

Just browse and ask questions and you might find some gems that haven’t seen the light of day for decades.

Good luck with your screenplay and getting it produced. Unfortunately, I have no contacts. I wouldn’t know an agent from an iguana. (Speaking of which, if you want to see a Southern Gothic play by Tennessee Williams which was adapted fro the big screen, then check out "Night of the Iguana" with Richard Burton and Ava Gardner and directed by John Huston. It’s more of a bittersweet passion story than a true love story.)
